Woodpecker

I'd seen him on the trunk of a small oak tree earlier the other afternoon and that was the picture I had originally wanted to get but I was always seconds too late. Then a little later I saw him pecking about in the wet grass, following a shower. He was much closer than he would have been in the tree so I was able to see him better and get a more detailed photo than the pecking silhouette I had been aiming for. :)))

Stretched Cotton Wool Clouds

Not very scientific, I know, but it is just what it looks like to me...a giant piece of cotton wool being pulled apart - not that we can see the hands!

Reflection Within a Shadow

Usually, shadows appear to be such opaque things. So I loved the way the reflection of this tree next to this pond is visible on the water's surface in its own right and within the shadow.

Round Straw Bales

I like the past, present and future vibe of this picture. The past being the crop has been harvested, leaving the stubble and the cut straw. The round bales are the present state of the process as some of the straw has been tied up. Then there's the future in the straw still lying in rows on the stubble, waiting to be baled up, and the bales themselves waiting to be collected and taken away to be stored and used in the coming months.

Fish Fillet Clouds

Not a very scientific description, I know, but fish fillets are what clouds like this always make me think of.

September Sundog

Yes, I know, it's another sundog but there's something about them that fascinates and entrances me. This picture of one was taken just before 6pm on September 3rd. So it left us thinking we should expect rain. At least another sundog appeared in the days that followed, and sure enough we had wind then rain. Just goes to show how reliable they can be.

Mud "Transformer"

I really do think you can see the shape of a transformer robot toy pointing into the distance in this mud, complete with highlights! Or maybe a tin man?
